BCC AGM and General Meeting 19 September 2017

The Annual General Meeting of the Belconnen Community Council will be held on:

7PM Tuesday 19 September 2017

at the

Community Room, above the Belconnen Library, Chandler Street, Belconnen.

The AGM will be held with all Committee positions declared vacant with an election held if more nominations are received, than positions to be filled.

Following the AGM, the monthly public meeting will be held. Full agendas will be published shortly.

Nominations for all BCC Committee positions must be received by the Secretary no later than 7 days prior to the AGM. Nomination forms can be found here:

Committee farewells BCC Chair Tara Cheyne

The Belconnen Community Council farewelled its recently returned Chair Tara Cheyne last night at the final Committee Meeting for the year.

Tara formally resigned as Chair at the end of the Committee Meeting, handing over to Deputy Chair Damien Haas who will act as Chair until early 2016, when the position will be filled (along with a Committee member position) at a special general meeting.

Tara has resigned as she has been pre-selected to run as an MLA in the 2016 Assembly elections. Good luck Tara Cheyne – Labor for Ginninderra!

The Committee presented her with a box of locally made and elaborately whimsically decorated biscuits.

The BCC Annual General Meeting will be held at the Community Room, upstairs at the Belconnen Library, on Tuesday 17 November 2015 commencing at 7:30 pm. All committee positions will be declared vacant at the AGM.

BCC adopted a new Constitution earlier this year. The most important change was the introduction of a register of members. Membership is free and application forms are available on the BCC website and at public meetings. The membership form lists the eligibility criteria which must be met. (Please note membership application forms will not be processed during the period COB 10 November 2015 until after the AGM on 17 November 2015.)

To be eligible to be elected or appointed to a Committee position at the AGM, the nominated member must have attended at least three public meetings in the 12 months prior to the AGM. A nominee must be nominated or seconded (if they self-nominate) by a BCC member.

If there is a greater number of nominees than positions available then elections will be held at the AGM.   Only registered BCC members present at the AGM will be eligible to cast a vote. Any Committee vacancies following the AGM will be dealt with as casual vacancies.

If you are interested in nominating yourself or another member for a position on the 2015-16 BCC Committee it is necessary that a completed nomination form is received by the BCC Secretary at secretary@belcouncil.org.au or PO Box 1131, Belconnen ACT 2617 before COB on 10 November 2015. All nominees are invited to submit a 150-word (maximum) statement in support of their nomination. The statements will be published on the BCC website.

We are seeking to fill the following positions for 2015-16:

  • Chair
  • Deputy Chair
  • Treasurer
  • Secretary
  • 8 ordinary Committee members

Committee meetings are currently held regularly on the last Wednesday of the month (January-November) 7:30-9:30 pm with some additional meetings held on an ‘as needs’ basis.

Committee vacancy – nominations sought!

The BCC Committee is currently seeking nominations to fill the vacant position on our committee. Are you interested in community issues, planning, and promoting Belconnen? Have you attended three public meetings in the past 12 months? If you’ve answered yes to both questions, we’d love to hear from you. Please submit a short paragraph about yourself to chair@belcouncil.org.au by Sunday, 14 June. In the event we receive more than one nomination, we will have a brief vote at the public meeting on Tuesday, 16 June.

Consultations and planning

  • In addition to the update at our meeting, information sessions on the West Belconnen development are being held on Thursday, 11 June at 5pm and Saturday, 13 June at 10am at the Kippax Project Office.
  • The auction of Section 200 in Belconnen (the car park behind the Labor Club) will be held on 17 June.
  • Of particular interest is the updated Indicative Land Release program. If you have any questions about this, please contact us. I’ll provide a quick overview in the Chair’s Report at the public forum.

Community information

  • The Belconnen Arts Centre Pozible campaign which we promoted last month was successfully funded! Thanks to all in the community for their support.
  • Did you know Strathnairn Arts, located just past Holt, has a cafe open Thursday to Sunday? For more information, click here.
  • The ACT Government keeps a comprehensive online list of permanent overnight and temporary road closures, as well as community path closures. There are a number of closures across Belconnen presently.
